There is no doubt that Griffiths is the best book on electrodynamics for freshmen or sophomores. It can be more useful if used with 'Classical Mechanics' by Taylor. Some people prefer the book of Jackson, but I should say that this is peerless for undergrads majoring physics. The Instructor Solutions Manual for Introduction to Electrodynamics, Fourth Edition, contains solutions to all of the nearly 600 problems, all written by the author. Available for download in PDF format from the Instructor Resource Center.

An Introduction to Electrodynamics provides an excellent foundation for those undertaking a course on electrodynamics, providing an in-depth yet accessible treatment of topics covered in most undergraduate courses, but goes one step further to introduce advanced topics in applied physics, such as fusions plasmas, stellar magnetism and planetary dynamos. Some of the central ideas behind electromagnetic waves, such as three-dimensional wave propagation and retarded potentials, are first explored in the introductory background chapters and explained in the much simpler context of acoustic waves. The inclusion of two chapters on magnetohydrodynamics provides the opportunity to illustrate the basic theory of electromagnetism with a wide variety of physical applications of current interest. Davidson places great emphasis on the pedagogical development of ideas throughout the text, and includes many detailed illustrations and well-chosen exercises to complement the material and encourage student development.

This invaluable text has been developed to provide students with more background on the applications of electricity and magnetism, particularly with those topics which relate to current research. For example, waveguides (both metal and dielectric) are discussed more thoroughly than in most texts because they are an important laboratory tool and important components of modern communications. In a sense, this book modernizes the topics covered in the typical course on electricity and magnetism. It provides not only solid background for the student who chooses a field which uses techniques requiring knowledge of electricity and magnetism, but also general background for the physics major.

This is the third and fully updated edition of the classic textbook on physics at the subatomic level. An up-to-date and lucid introduction to both particle and nuclear physics, the book is suitable for both experimental and theoretical physics students at the senior undergraduate and beginning graduate levels. Topics are introduced with key experiments and their background, encouraging students to think and empowering them with the capability of doing back-of-the-envelope calculations in a diversity of situations. Earlier important experiments and concepts as well as topics of current interest are covered, with extensive use of photographs and figures to convey principal concepts and show experimental data. The coverage includes new material on: Detectors and acceleratorsNucleon elastic form factor dataNeutrinos, their masses and oscillationsChiral theories and effective field theories, and lattice QCDRelativistic heavy ions (RHIC)Nuclear structure far from the region of stabilityParticle astrophysics and cosmology Errata(s) Errata for Chapter 6 Errata for Chapter 11

Tremendous technological developments and rapid progress in theory have opened a new area of modern physics called high-field electrodynamics: the systematic study of the interaction of relativistic electrons or positrons with ultrahigh-intensity, coherent electromagnetic radiation. This advanced undergraduate/graduate-level text provides a detailed introduction to high-field electrodynamics, from its fundamentals to some of its important modern applications. The author describes a broad collection of theoretical techniques, and where possible, approaches derivations by at least two different routes to yield deeper physical insight and a wider range of mathematical and physical techniques. He also discusses some of the outstanding ramifications of electrodynamics in areas ranging from quantum optics, squeezed states, and the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox to rotating black holes, non-Abelian gauge field theories, and the Bohm-Aharanov effect. High-Field Electrodynamics gives a comprehensive description of the theoretical tools needed to approach this novel discipline. It highlights important modern applications and serves as a starting point for more advanced and specialized research at the frontiers of modern physics.

'The conceptual changes brought by modern physics are important, radical and fascinating, yet they are only vaguely understood by people working outside the field. Exploring the four pillars of modern physics - relativity, quantum mechanics, elementary particles and cosmology - this clear and lively account will interest anyone who has wondered what Einstein, Bohr, Schrèodinger and Heisenberg were really talking about. The book discusses quarks and leptons, antiparticles and Feynman diagrams, curved space-time, the Big Bang and the expanding Universe. Suitable for undergraduate students in non-science as well as science subjects, it uses problems and worked examples to help readers develop an understanding of what recent advances in physics actually mean'--

The goal of this book is to teach undergraduate students how to use Scientific Notebook (SNB) to solve physics problems. SNB software combines word processing and mathematics in standard notation with the power of symbolic computation. As its name implies, SNB can be used as a notebook in which students set up a math or science problem, write and solve equations, and analyze and discuss their results. Written by a physics teacher with over 20 years experience, this text includes topics that have educational value, fit within the typical physics curriculum, and show the benefits of using SNB. This easy-to-read text: Provides step-by-step instructions for using Scientific Notebook (SNB) to solve physics problems Features examples in almost every section to enhance the reader's understanding of the relevant physics and to provide detailed instructions on using SNB Follows the traditional physics curriculum, so it can be used to supplement teaching at all levels of undergraduate physics Includes many problems taken from the author’s class notes and research Aimed at undergraduate physics and engineering students, this text teaches readers how to use SNB to solve some everyday physics problems.

This Book’s focus and intent is to impart an understandingof the practical application of atmospheric plasma for theadvancement of a wide range of current and emerging technologies. The primary key feature of this book is the introduction of overthirteen years of practical experimental evidence of successfulsurface modifications by atmospheric plasma methods. It offers ahandbook-based approach for leveraging and optimizing atmosphericplasma technologies which are currently in commercial use. It alsooffers a complete treatment of both basic plasma physics andindustrial plasma processing with the intention of becoming aprimary reference for students and professionals. The reader will learn the mechanisms which control and operateatmospheric plasma technologies and how these technologies can beleveraged to develop in-line continuous processing of a widevariety of substrates. Readers will gain an understanding ofspecific surface modification effects by atmospheric plasmas, andhow to best characterize those modifications to optimize surfacecleaning and functionalization for adhesion promotion. The book also features a series of chapters written to addresspractical surface modification effects of atmospheric plasmaswithin specific application markets, and a commercially-focusedassessment of those effects.
